There are three points to start with. 1) We come to worship to pray. Each person is an equal and active partner in every aspect of the worship event. Worship is not a spectator’s event to hear some good music and listen to a good message. The definition of the word liturgy is the prayer-work of the people. The people lead, serve, organize, and facilitate every aspect of our time together. 2) We are celebrating the second Sunday of Women’s History. 3) From the readings today we discussed the striking of the rock by Moses when God gave flowing water. In 1 Corinthians 10:4, Paul indicates Jesus was the rock. We recalled Jesus saying he had to leave so that the Holy Spirit could come. How did Jesus leave? Through the crucifixion. Here we see Jesus the rock being struck by the crucifixion and thus giving us the flow eternal waters of the Holy Spirit. There is much more in the sermon on this topic.
